missing in action.....

That's how it seems here and on my other blogs, with hubby laid up at home for the week now, I'm not getting much done! And he's frustrated being home for a week and not being able to do anything, let alone missing out on a weeks pay, no sick days where he works and we used his vacation to go out west, but hopefully he will be able to go back to work on Monday and we can get caught back up on everything! You never know when such a mishap will take you down and put your life on hold. But were grateful his injury is only a couple of muscles pulled, you never realize just how you get along in everyday life using the muscles we never think about till we can't use them. So, once our life gets back to normal I will be posting like I did before and updating my other blogs. And a special Hi to Lynda, a farmgirl fan who I hope to meet next month, looking forward to it Lynda!!

weekend wow and woes........

Let me start with the WOW, my hubby surprised me with a lunch on Saturday with all the kids there, except for the one who just moved to West Virginia, anyhoo, I entered the resturant and found them all sitting at the long table ready to surprise me for my birthday, I was really taken in, esp. since this is not normal for my hubby, but he planned it well and kept it a secret. Lunch was great and afterwards we all gathered at the newlyweds for cake and ice cream and presents, I felt like a kid again, which was a gift in it's self! Later that evening we all came back to our place so the guys could mow the field to get it ready for the 4th of July fireworks! My sweet hubby turned the wow into a woe when he pulled two muscles in the his right leg walking off the root cellar the wrong way! So, he is home and laid up for a few days, we spent 4 hours at urgent care yesterday to get him some relief. What a weekend! The weather here has turned cooler, so off with the A/C, should be nice all week with chances of rain here and there! Before the mishap with hubby, we did get a cedar tree cut down in the front yard, so now I have a new spot for a flower bed, good timing too, all the greenhouses are cutting prices on flowers, so I'll be busy this week!

gifts galore......

It's not like when your little and everyone in your world makes a fuss over each birthday, but I had a pretty good one for being a granny! I had lunch with a daugher in law and grandkids, birthday calls kept the phone ringing and hubby took me out for dinner and bought me a new 3 in 1 printer, the kind where I can print photo's from my camera without using the computer, so no more waiting in line at Walmart to make prints! Bless his heart, he's been saving his overtime to get me a new printer, he's such a good guy!!! Plus, we got rain yesterday too, I think I was more excited over the rain than the printer, no watering for awhile! Gifts come in all forms, some you don't realize are even gifts at the time. Like rain, for gardeners it is a gift from the sky for the gardens and flowers to survive, farmers can relate too.  Folks out west, like my sister can tell you how important rain is to those who live in the desert, how else do you think it became a desert, the lack of rain. Just think if it never rained again, could we garden? Where would the water come from that supplies the house with running water? Our planet would dry up and blow away! I'm very big on conserving water, I lived in a cabin for 3 years where we had to haul all our water from a nearby spring, that was not fun and thankfully I was alot younger then, but from that experience comes my concern for water wasted. I know I've run with this post and got off track but sometimes you just have to speak out for what concerns you, so next time your brushing your teeth with the water running, think about your planet and help it conserve whenever you can, it won't last forever!

It's my birthday.....

I'll own it, I'm 47 today!! I'm wiser, happier, and yes greyier, if that is even a word? Turning 40 was the hardest, but once you get pass that hump, it's all down hill from there! I'm at a point in life where I don't care what people think of me, I'm living my life just how I want too, and I apprecaite the smallest things in life. I understand death better since losing both parents and it's ok to let go of somethings. Sure there are many things I still want to do, that I need to do, all in good time. For every season there is a reason, and even though the seasons come and go alot faster, I'm pacing myself and reaching for the stars! It's funny, I can look in a mirror and still see the little pudgy girl who wanted to be a writer. Hey, I'm still here, not much has changed, still pudgy and still writing! Got to hold onto your dreams! I'm not famous, but I have been published in a few magazines and all over the internet, so I'm still in the race! I like to think that my life is only half over, leaving me plenty of time to chase those dreams, I still have alot of living to do!

first day of summer....

I dont' need a calender to tell me it's summer, it's been warm and hot long before this day came around. But in fun, I guess the first day of summer is a day to celebrate, how do you celebrate the good ole summertime? When I was a kid, summer meant no school, playing outside till dark, and sleeping in. At my age, summer means hot days, warm nights, outings with the family, gardening chores and looking forward to fall. I do enjoy sitting on the deck watching fireflys blinking about the yard. Simple pleasures can be found weather you live in the country or city, so get out and enjoy the sweet summer days ahead and share your summertime memories with me!

it's getting hot.....

Summer time is here, the temp is rising and I'm having to water the porch plants every other day now. Yesterday I was looking for a teacup and saucer for a farmgirl exchange and sure enough I found one, plus a couple of other treasures. I picked up a red onion plate for 75 cents and a wicker plant stand that looks like a bassinet for only $2. Both are old and worth alot more, so my new found treasures made my hot day a bit c010_10ooler! We also picked our first batch of green beans, I'm blanching them now and will freeze them. I'm looking forward to tomatoes and peppers, which always means salsa time! Eating cool tonight, BLT's, scrambled eggs and hashbrowns with peppers and cheese! You got to look for the cool side of summer and make the best of it. Our country fair will be next month so I'm trying to get some good photo's for the photography contest I enter each year. I have a few in mind so will work on getting them ready and framed. I usually enter canned goods and herbs too, placing somewhere with everything. Amazing how a blue or red ribbon can make a grown woman giggle!

happy father's day....

Dear daddies everywhere, I hope you had a good day, filled with funny gifts to remember and cherish and loved ones to celebrate with. This is one of my favortie photos of my dear Dad, who passed away several years ago, and who had his ashes scattered across the sea, he loved the ocean, was a Navy man too, he just loved California! Our dadady here was long, with five kids making all the rounds took half the day, and lunch out is always a treat for anyone! We were honored last night by being the first dinner guests of the newlyweds, it was nice and good! They won't go hungry! This afternoon we also checked out the annual Old Time Music Festival downtown, saw how things were crafted way back then, our grand daughter really liked the tee pee's that were set up. Yesterday, we got some much needed rain, so the gardens are drying out so we can do even more weeding! Where did the weekend go??? I was got a early birthday gift, my oldest son and his wife got me 5 baby ducks to replace the ones I lost last weekend to that fool doing 80! They are so cute, three months old, two are males and three are females. Live gifts from those two don't surprise me anymore!!

roots and wings.....

004_4This last week has been such a trying time here, three deaths, one marriage and another act of letting go. My "baby" left this morning to move to West Virginia to start " his " life. He graduated bible college last month and is taking a youth pastor position at a church in a small town in W.V., he's only 21 and will always be my baby, the third son gifted to me. Between my hubby and I, we have 5 wonderful kids that we have raised together. Tyler cooked us a great steak dinner the other night so I have no doubts he can survive. Plus, his girlfriend doesn't live too far away! Last night the family gathered for a dinner and send off, we try to find any reason for a family get together, but this one was bittersweet. I'm proud of him for following the path that he's chosen, and I'm secure in knowing I've lined the path with love, trust and respect. He has roots here, and I know he will fly high in his new journey. I will miss him terribly, but am SO happy for him! It's never easy letting your children go off into the wide world alone, and we did have them all home for awhile after the oldest son and family moved back after 5 yrs. or so, what a heartbreaker that was, he joined the Marines right out of high school, he was brave, I was not!  To add some cheer to this post, check out my Clematis, I just love it!

more growth and sadness.....

This is what my big flower bed looked like when we got home from our trip out west, I had weeded it before I left and it wasn't too weedy, but just look at all the growth in one we002_2ek, I was amazed. And today, you can hardly see the birdbath in the middle. The birds, butterflys, chipmunks and hummers are all enjoying this colorful spot in the yard. The lady I clean for on Wednesdays greeted me this morning with sad news, her hubby has a tumor in his colon and goes in for surgery on Monday, the doctors don't give them much hope, it's growing at a fast pace, so they are making arrangments and planning for the worse. My heart is heavy with sadness, these people are more like friends and so sweet! I'm beginning to think doom is following me, it's been the darkest week, there has to be some light soon. Growth is good, tumors are not. Flowers are like friends, always blooming and there for you in good times as well as bad. My prayers go out to a 70 yr. old man who isn't done with life yet, but is prepared and making sure his wife is taken care of.

wedding bells rang....

061_61We have a new addition to our family, Heath and Stephanie tied the knot on Sat. June 10, finally after 6 months of planning and prepping, all their hard work paid off, the ceramony was beautiful. Both were not feeling well but they got through it and we did too! They are on the honeymoon, in Kansas City at the Ritz Carlton after leaving the chruch in a 68 SS Camaro all primed and full of pink and white balloons! Welcome to the family Stephanie, who makes #13! Were gonna need a bigger house!! lol Remember duckie, well some jerk racing down the street Sunday ran them both over, killing them. They were not in the street and no one else was on the hiway, he was going SO fast he probably didn't have time to even see them, but she leaves 9 eggs that were due to hatch anyday now. I collected them and put them in a hens nest to see if she would set on them, but she wouldn't. So yesterday, a friend lent me her incubator, so now they are in there and I'll give them a week or so. Hopefully, we can save some, but I'm not expecting any to hatch. It just makes me sick how some people can be so cruel! This just ended one of the worse weeks this family has had, thankfully wedding bells rang perfectly!!!!
