Another look at a farm girl's life, one who loves living in the country and everything is has to offer, good or bad, how else do we grow...

makin beds.....

Here's the new flower bed up front and personal, it's been good therpy! My Mom as you know, had a stroke a couple of weeks ago, and it doesn't look good, her body is not coming oP5230069ut of it and I do believe her mind is made up, she is ready to go! So my sister and I try to plan what would be best for her since she is unable to tell us, we want her to leave this world knowing we will celebrate her life and pass on her memories. We pray she finds peace and comfort in that. It's hard to let go of a loved one, esp. your last parent, she won't be taken from us, but sent for. We all have to face this time of our lives with the understanding that the end of a life is not about us left behind. I'm also trying to plan a trip out to Nevada, it's not easy being so far away and on a tight budget!  Gardening is not only productive but cheaper than a shrink!!

warming up.....

Wow, what a warm weekend we had, and it's suppose to get up to 90 by the end the week, the weather man is just as confused, he said we don't hit 90 till July! Oh well, nothing we can do except complain and that isn't very productive, yet again, venting is good! The bridal shower was nice, played some fun games and the bride to be won't have to buy any kind of sleepwear for a decade!! The kids made it home safe and sound yesterday, so we had the whole clan over for a welcome home cookout and to celebrate the graduate!

I've got a little chipmunk hanging out in the herb garden, I spotted him on the back porch checking things out, he's so cute, you can't help but smile! I spent yesterday mulching flower beds, not done yet, but getting there. Life is in the slow lane right now, just enjoying all the new growth and blooms!

Only in the Ozarks can it be cold one day and very warm the next, as I finally had to turn on the A/C for the season today. It's not too bad but not normal yet either, in the 80's which usually don't happen till June. I got my new flower bed done, just need to mulch it now. Tonight is a bridal shower for our newest soon to be daugher in law, should be fun and will allow some insight on her family and friends, as we don't know much about them yet. She's quiet while we aren't! LOL But she will fit in just fine. Our first daughter in law and 2 grandkids flew to Calif. for two weeks to spend some time with her family, sure do miss those kiddies already! I'm trying to keep busy, my mind wanders on my Mom, who isn't coming out of this stoke, so it's just a matter a time.  I know she wouldn't want to live like she is now, so I pray she is comfortable until she is called for. As we age, we see death much differently, we tend to accept the passing as a ticket home, free from pain, humiliation and fear. The memories are the greatest gifts of comfort. No one can escape death, but we can enbrace it and allow the time to heal. Our two youngest kids are due home from college tomorrow, driving all night. My youngest son graduated today from the bible college he attended for the last 3 years, I'm very proud of him, taking steps to ensure his future's work. He will be home for a month before he moves to West Virginia to start a new life as a youth pastor. Oh how the spirit moves you!

garden days......

This is last years new flower bed, can you believe most of the plants here were free, nice to have garden friends! Now, I'm working on a new flower bed in the front yard, give me time and P5070032the whole yard will be turned in to flower beds, hubby won't mind, less to mow! The weather is perfect for tending to chores outside, 74 today with a light breeze, yeah! Today is also the last day of school for kids here, we don't have any kids left that go to school here, our two youngest attend a college in Export, Pa. and are due home on Sunday.  What a joyful ride home today, spotted kids fishing in a pond, hay fields in motion like a sea of grass, and farmers out making hay. I love the smell of fresh cut grass or hay fields! This is life in the country, and I love it!

save the internet.....

A blogging buddy sent me this info. that is new to me, but important enough to pass on. It seems the goverment wants to take control of the internet and the speed of which people use it, saving the high speeds for the business world and leaving us citizens in the slow lane. Go the site here ( www.savetheinternet.com ) and check it out and sign the petition to stop the goverment from messing with us, if passed, blogs could be a thing of the past!

On a happy note, the weather is back to normal, keeping us busy outside trying to catch up. I'm digging up a new flower bed in the front with high hopes it turns out half as nice as the big one out back that I did last year. And for the first time this season, I spotted lightening bugs last night! We don't usually see them till summer when it's alot warmer than it is now, but still a treat anytime! My grand daugher loves to catch them and put them in a jar to light up in the house, she's gotten pretty good at it too! It's nice to see kids continue on with the simple pleasures of country living.

weather woes....

It's hard to believe it's May, for the last few days it's been cloudy, cold and windy, keeping us out of the gardens and inside like winter hermits, not fair! Yesterday only got up to 58 at best, I was tempted to turn the heater back on, and today isn't much better, what is going P5100036on here? Last week it was the record rain fall, which did help this mystery Iris bloom. I don't remember where I got it from, probably a freebie. It's smaller than most Iris', but sure is pretty, reminds me of my little sister who loves Iris's, so Ally is this for you! I know it's HOT where your at, makes me wonder if there is a happy medium out there somewhere? On my drive to a client today I spotted wild coneflowers in full bloom, I just love them, so pretty and pink! It was nice to see so many ponds full again! More rain in the forecast, such a odd year! I think Mother Nature is on strike!

Mother's day is everyday!

old family pics 009To all mother's out there, I hope you have a wonderful day, full of cards, phone calls, gifts and a meal out! I've had it all this weekend, I haven't had to cook since Friday night, got flowers, cards, phone calls and the sweetest gift of all, hugs from my grand babies! On this Mothers Day, my thoughts are with my Mom, in a rehab hospital, holding her own but not in a way you'd like to see your Mom. I like this old picture of her, in her peek days of social grace. I could of lived back then, listen to me, it was only the 50's, but such a fun time. My Mom was born and raised in England, came to the states to start over after a divorce. She was brave, left her family over seas to begin a new life in a new country. To this day, she's considered a alien, a legal one, but she won't give up citizenship to her home land. I can't blame her, I woudn't either. She's lived and worked through a war, two marriages and three daughers. She deserves to live her last years comfortable and in control. I guess that's the hardest part of growing old, losing control of your life, your freedom and sanity. Our exit in life should be more graceful, and that is my wish for her today. Mother's Day is everyday, just not expressed with flowers or gifts, but the treasure is knowing how blessed you are to have children.

saturday night stroll.....

The second Saturday of each month from March to Dec. our downtown area stays open late, till 9 pm, there is live music, places to eat and shops to browse through hand in hand with a sweetie or two! Just like the old fashioned days of yester year, it's held around our square and tonight were all going, the kids and grandkids too! It's a nice way to spend a Saturday night, a good date night or just a chance to shop the many stores tucked in around the square. Should be fun and we have to support those small mom and pop places that are becomming fewer each year as Walmart takes over the world!

birthdays gone but not forgotten....

old family pics 005

Today is my Dad's birthday even though he has passed on, but still a day to celebrate him. He was born on Mother's Day when the 12th fell on the Sunday that is now Mother's Day. I credit him for my love of gardening, as a child I can remember him always outside watering something, I think it was his way of de-stressing from the day and the job. He loved his roses most of all, so I always have roses in my landscape in honor of him. He was a thoughtful man, loved birds and tropical fish and enjoyed fishing and the computer later on in his life. He is missed but not forgotten and he lives on in his children and grand children. Our roots are a treasure to share and celebrate, it took a long line to create me and I'm here because of my family tree, so I stand tall and proud!

snake in the house....

snakeP5100040

I hate snakes, so imagine my shock when I found this black snake in the house yesterday! I was heading for the kitchen and he was heading for the living room when we took each other by surprise, he ducked in the hall closet and I headed for the nearest shovel out back. Luckily for both of us, my hubby was off work and heading home, but 40 min. passed, and I'm still armed with a garden shovel hoping to get a stab at this reptile, all he would do is peek his head out enough to remind my nerves to panic! My hero came to my rescue ( not soon enough) and caught him bare handed, ok, he wore gloves but still braver than me! Took him outside to see if our dog, Lou wanted to check him out, he didn't so he was released to the back of the property. Black snakes are harmless and I respect their place in the world, but when they invade our house, they are goners, so it was his lucky day! All the rains must of forced him to seek higher and drier ground, but not my house PLEASE!!!
