farewell november....

It must be old age, but time does fly faster than it once did! I don't know where November went too so fast? Now, I HAVE to think about Christmas and budget for it, should be interesting. One year I would love to do a homemade Christmas, of course I would have to work on the projects all year round, which might not be so bad after all? Something to think about and pass along to the kids. I was hoping to make 3 baby quilts for Christmas for my three grandkids, but they might have to settle for IOU's for them!  I may not have time to make all three?

I'm so proud of my little sister who has become a canner! She made her first jelly and is hooked, she really enjoys it and this comes from a girl who once wouldn't  eat anything unless it came from a can or box. I remember when she first came out to visit me when I was living in Arkansas, out in the boonies and we raised rabbits for meat, I didnt' dare tell her we were having rabbit one night for supper, so I fibbed and told her it was chicken, she loved it until she found out what it was, the same story goes for goat milk, I reused a regular milk jug to hold our goat milk in and she drank it thinking it was cows milk, funny how mind over matter works!

But my little sisters first attempt at jelly making is good! She sent me a jar of pomegrante jelly, and I love it! I'll be posting the recipe on my other blog soon. I love to make jelly and jams and better yet, to recieve them, esp. from a newbie who I never thought would turn out to be a country girl! Way to go Allison, love ya!

charm squares coming....

My second home lately has been the forums at Mary Janes Farm. Here I have found a wealth of information from girls who have the farm girl spirit like me! We share recipes, crafts, ideas, friendship and everything in between! It's funny how you can find tons of best friends on the internet, and connect with total strangers. One exchage I got in on is the charm squares, we cut and send 6 blocks of fabric measuring 6 inches to all the girls on a list, when done, we each will have enough to make a friendship quilt, what could be more neat? I've sent off 29 bundles of squares so far and I'm recieving some in return, today I got some all the way from New Zealand, how cool is that! And so far no repeats and such fun pattens too. I can hardly wait to make my quilt. If your into crafts, cooking, canning or just looking for a neat place to surf, check us out at www.maryjanesfarm.org and join in on the fun!

burr....

After a warm weekend and a night of nasty storms, it's back to being cold and sunless! Our high for the day was at 6 this morning, the temp has been dipping down ever since, I guess winter is back for awhile? But we did dodge all the bad storms last night, and only got the rain and wind, which at times was concerning but this old house has been here since the early thirties so I trust it to look out for us.

I had such a treat yesterday, a dear friend called and we chatted and got caught up on our lives, we haven't talked in ages. She was a client of mine, I cleaned her house for 6 years before they moved to West Virginia. We became fast friends, and have stayed in touch ever since. She is a special lady, full of faith and family. A role model for anyone including me! It was the perfect way to end the Thanksgiving weekend, because I treasure my friendships and the old ones are the best and when you find someone you connect with it's a true blessing.

is it spring again?

Well, here we go again with the weather, yesterday and today are both more like spring, in the 60's with rain and possible severe storms late tonight, so odd! I wonder if the weather will ever be back to normal, or as we once knew it?

Got Robbie and Melissa all moved, again! It's become a family joke since they move SO much, but that's life. I moved too much as a child, so being in this place for almost 12 years now is NICE. Our youngest two kids left to go back to school in Pa. this afternoon, and hopefully they will stay in front of the storms that will probably follow them all the way there. With Thanksgiving over, time to think about getting all my fall decorations down and dig out the Christmas ones, but not after a good rest from a busy 4 day weekend, and I didn't  get to go shopping not once!

black friday....

By now most stores will be sold out of the featured items advertised for the holiday's worst shopping day, black friday! I love to shop, but not enough to get up at 4 am to make the 5 am opening of most stores today, I don't care to fight my way down the ailes only to be pushed aside by eager shoppers. So, here I sit, in my cozy robe with coffee in hand, taking a moment to myself before I start my day, a day of moving. My second son and his wife are moving back into town, where life is a bit easier for them and so Chloe can get on more relaxed routine. So, shop till you drop, eat left overs and start your Christmas card lists, and most of all, stay safe.....

Happy Thanksgiving......

A day of thanks, good food and family, what could be better? I give thanks each and everyday, I try to cook better and healthier with each new recipe clipped, and family always comes first, so to me, Thanksgiving is more than once a year, and as we get older, we come to appreacite the simple things in life. I hope everyone is having a peaceful day, count your blessings and always try to be thankful for what you have, and the rest will follow.

turkey eve....

This will be short and sweet as I need to start my holiday baking for tomorrow, on the menu is carmel apple pie, cranberry cobbler, coconut cake with a cherry pie filling center and of course, a pumpkin pie! All home made along with stuffing and cranberry sauce. So, in case I don't have time to get on here tomorrow, I wanted to wish everyone a safe and blesssed Thanksgiving.........and if your a black friday shopper, be extra careful, those crowds can get crazy !

pre turkey run.....

The stores are crazy, you'd think it was black friday already! Like many others, I had to make another run to the store for things on my list that always seem to get forgotten. I had to get some curry powder and tarragon, Oh my! I never expected to pay close to $4 a bottle for each of them. I need them both for a new dip recipe I want to try, not sure if I'll use the curry again unless we like the dip. I think I will have to plant some tarragon at this price. Makes me wonder how fresh these herbs are that we buy in bottle in the stores. I grow all my herbs I need, and dry them, so I haven't had to buy any in so long, the sticker shock is still with me! I hope this dip is a hit, cuz it's a pricey one!

first day of a busy week....

The rush is on.....with only a few days until Thanksgiving and a busy work week cleaning other houses in time for the holiday, leaves me in a pinch to prepare our meal. So, I guess Wednesday afternoon is when I will be baking all the desserts and the rest will have to wait till Thanksgiving. I'm sure some of you are in the same boat, so let's sail together, it all will get down somehow, always does......

The deer must know the end of the hunting season is tomorrow, I had 9 does run out in the road in front of me, they were running from something, not a second thought on their minds nor a pause. It was a pretty sight, so graceful and all in time, amazes me how they miss the fence everytime!

I was at the computer for a good spell yesterday, playing with another blog, I'm hooked! This one is at Blogspot, where it is much easier to upload pictures, I can't figure out how to do it here? Help anyone? Anyway, check out my new blog, this one is more like website where I can post my articles and recipes.   www.herbalfarmstead.blogspot.com

the hit parade, not ?

Just when you think you got your 4 year old grand daughter figured out, she does a 180 on you! Since the birth of her little brother in Oct., May has had a hard time sharing her parents and us with Dominik, so I thought entering her in the "Little Miss Christmas" pagent would help cheer her up some, so yesterday when she got to ride in the Christmas parade along with all the other contestants, she would be thrilled and felt special, NOT!!! Instead, she felt and looked bored and when asked if she had a good time, she honestly said no, she missed seeing the parade and candy that gets throwed out to the crowd! Then to top the day off, and add to my disappointment, her jar at her sponsered store was stolen! All contestants have a jar with their picture on it and the one who is crowned " Little Miss Christmas" is judged by the most pennies, so now we will have to start all over with a new jar with only a week to go! How low can anyone get to steal a child's penny jar for a benefit? Kinda hard to get in the holiday spirit when something like that happens so early in the season! Needless to say, all contestants will win a title of some sorts, a gift from Santa, and certificate .
